Doesn’t surprise me in the least.
I’ve seen this first hand at the PO,BT and latterly openreach. All filled with ideas men, well kids really, who look for scapegoats when systems, targets and processes fail.
All in all, very punitive places to work
Btw good program

Some people won't like this, nevertheless, here goes.

Post Office Investigations Branch is the oldest of all criminal investigation agencies: far older than police CID or military SIB. It has draconian powers, (Like Customs and excise have) along with the ability to harness the full power of the state to back up and protect it.

Historically, it contributed to the confidence we could have in the Post Office. Until fairly recent times, we saw very little mail theft, little wire fraud, (as illustrated, albeit set up, in movie 'The Sting') and until someone leaked the telephone conversations of the Royal Family, forty some years back, breaches of privacy/confidentiality in our telecoms was almost unheard of. (If you are aware of the history of Strowger, you will know this was not necessarily so in other countries.)

I would love to know when things started to go wrong, as clearly they have done.

This story shows what happens if you permit the full power of the state to bear upon citizens without due process or the constitutional checks and balances limiting such abuse of power. Where does sovereignty lie, when such an organisation acts "in contempt of parliament", but its leader in charge of a cover up is awarded a CBE?

Some people on this site were cheering Boris on when he announced his intention of promoting his government's ability to be unhampered by such constitutional checks and balances. To do so is in the manifesto of our current government.

Had Covid not thwarted this government's business, we might all be living in a more Putinist state by now.

POWER CORRUPTS. DO NOT PERMIT IT TO BE CONCENTRATED IN WAYS THAT ARE BEYOND OUR ABILITY TO CHALLENGE!

No company, organisation etc will ever admit that there is a fault or problem with the hardware or software of their computor systems.

And like the top officers of South Yorkshire Police over Hillsborough, not one of the top people of the Post Office have ever faced criminal charges about what they did and the most likely reason is because those at the top of all establishment organisations like the Police and Post office etc in our country are members of the Freemasons.

The woman who got the CBE was only the CEO who along with her Assistant were only doing the dirty work of faceless people well above their pay grade.

"not one of the top people of the Post Office have ever faced criminal charges about what they did"

That might not continue to be the case, because the thing is still ongoing, the public inquiry into what happened is still hearing evidence and this has been announced today.

Surfer Tom

The money would have gone initially into a Post Office suspense account. Eventually it would finish up in the Post Office profit and loss account as a profit.

Surfer Tom,

The Post Office scandal started when Gordon Brown was PM.

Should have read when Tony Blair was PM. He signed off the deal with Fujitsu in 1999.

Have signed the petition Ena, thanks for the link.
I also think that the Church of England should be doing something about the fact that she was allowed to become a vicar. Cant believe how quiet they have been on the matter.

The Post Office scandel has been going on during the governments of both the Tory and Labour governments, before Brexit and during the time that all three local MP's for Leigh, Makerfield and Wigan appear to have done little of nothing about the matter even though they obviously knew how the sub postmasters concerned had and were being treated..

Correct, the Post Office is indeed run by Civil Servents, but where has anyone on the topic said that it is run by MP's.

Perhaps the time of 01:16 and blurred vision might explain it!

Why would the MP's for Leigh, Makerfield and Wigan be involved with this? Have any of them been approached by a member of their constituency regarding the issue?

I think there are local sub postmasters who have been affected by the scandal.

Cheshire Cat

Irrespective of any approach by a sub postmaster in the three local constuencies, all MP's would be well aware during the long period in question, there was something wrong at a national level of the Post Office which needed to be looked at by Parlialiament.

It should not need a ITV television programme to make MP's of all parties to do something about a matter which had been going on for so long and ignored while the people concerned were being wrongly accuse of thief and false accounting, being sent to prison, killing themselves, being attacked by members of the public for what was the wrong doing and scandel of a government institution.

That is exactly what I thought, and it is known as a 'failure of journalism' to inform the public about what is happening, but I watched this explanation from a journalist Nick Wallis about that, and I think that
he gave a credible explanation, in regard to how these things work, and how a docu/drama can get things moving LINK
